Hi Everybody!

We are Kimberly, Terry, Louisa, Oliver & Sophie - a crazy little family of 5.  We love music, kids, being outside, imagining things, singing, sunshine, stories, dancing and climbing trees.  We started performing as vogelJoy in 2010, when we released our first Children's Album, "We Have A Band".   Terry and Kimberly had a date night, a napkin and a pen and thought up our idea and our name.  We Love having date nights to dream up new ideas!

Bits Of Our Show!

What's In A Name?

vogel is German for 'bird' and we wanted to be creative using another language in our name and we like birds because they sing and they fly and they are all kinds of colours.  Some birds even swim, some like it cold, some like it hot... anyway, we like birds.  And then of course we love joy and so we put those two words together to make our band name "vogelJoy"!

That's the story :)

vogelJoy tip

vogelJoy starts with the letter 'V' (which is an awesome letter by the way!)  But you say it with the sound of 'f' because it's German.  Now you're all set!

We Like Music!

Terry and Kimberly met in music class and lived happily ever after.

We studied Music Performance at the University of Western Ontario and have been music educators for more than 14 years.  We love music and want to pass that joy and discipline on to our children and to many many more.

vogelJoy 2012:

  • vogelJoy is next embarking on an ambitious trip to South America in 2013. Several multilingual performances are in the works, and during this South American Tour we will be working on the production of an original musical based on the Brothers Grimm story of The Shoemaker and the Elves.
vogelJoy 2011:
  • In 2011, we released a full-length "vogelJoy Live" DVD!  We produced our own show for stage and invited everyone we could from our hometown to come out.  It was a lot of fun!  We acted out the story of the Bemen Town Musicians, Miss Fogarty's Christmas Cake and lots of other favourites.  We also debuted our newest song That's Us and reintroduced our other favourites such as Holidays written by Terry & Louisa.  We ended the show with our very favourite song Five Pennies.  Louisa & Oliver sang like pros and Sophie was a great little dancer, actor and rooster :)  It's a great experience putting on a show like this with your whole family.  Families love watching our show because there is something for everyone and the kids really connect.  You just have to watch the DVD!

  • Next time we visited the Old Town Hall stage it was the new year! 2011.  We put on another show with more music we had written and really involved the kids.  And of course we sang the crowd favourite, Jenny Jenkins!  So many kids and Dads love this song!  It's true, Jenny Jenkins is a Dad favourite. =D

  • Summer/Fall of 2011 brought lots of fairs and festivals!  We really enjoyed playing all over Southwestern Ontario.

  • One of our most exciting projects of 2011 was working with The Belmont Corn Maze!  They now have their own song, Missing In The Corn Maze!  Lyrics written by maze owner Janine Lunn and music composed by Terry from vogelJoy.  We had a fantastic time working with them and romping around in our own vogelJoy themed maze.  It's a great thrill seeing your band all made up in the corn.  Our music video got 1000 views in one month!  That's pretty big stuff for a pretty little band. :)  All the kids that came out to the maze to see the show new the words -- very fun!  Go back in time and read all about the maze adventures here.
  • We have so many great pictures from a few of our shows in 2011 - Have a look!

vogelJoy 2010:

In 2010, we released our first album; "We Have a Band". This album reflects our love of 1930's-1960's jazz, contemporary music, and classic rhymes and poetry. Our goal is to make music that children will enjoy with their parents and grandparents, appealing to all generations of music-loving families.  Check out our blog for stories of our Western Canada tour that year!

A Few Other Things...

  • Louisa is starting her own blog http://louisasstories.wordpress.com/
  • Sophie seems to get a lot of knots in her hair all of the time!
  • Oliver is a real card.
  • We want to watch the musical Salad Days and hear the song about the missing piano.
  • Kimberly & Terry helped with this ongoing Metastasio Research project.
  • We joined the circus.  Circus classes actually!  Love it!  Once we're good we may never be home again ;)
  • We're touring South America this year!  Right now in Santiago Chile.  Performing, circusing and having an all around good time.
  • We walk a lot!  Ok actually the parents walk - the kids more or less do parkour, they don't know how to walk.
